Emma's Heart

Day 243

It isn't a new thing that whatever my kids experience, I do also. But tonight, as I waited in the rafters of the stage on which Emma will be doing her first dance recital, I felt every single emotion she must have been feeling. Fear, excitement, a little dizzy, and a total adrenaline rush. My heart was beating as if I were getting up there, and as she ran into my arms once exiting stage right, I felt the beat of her heart pressed against mine- going the exact same speed, with the exact same amount of intensity. So maybe I'm a little emotional because it's her birthday, but tonight I realized just how literally we are connected. Her heart is made from the cells of my body. Her arms, and feet, and eyes, and hair are all made from me.

My heart beats for her. It beats with hers. And I'm sorry if that's too sentimental for you. It's just the way it is.
